Gerbil Probe Records was founded in a coffee shop in 1995. Michael Rose (flood damage) and Aaron Michels (Cygnet) had a fishbowl on the counter of said coffee shop asking people to help name the punk rock band they were in at the time. The sarcastic owner of said coffee shop, put a slip into the fishbowl urging the band to call itself "The Gerbil Probes" with Richard Gere being er... in the news at the time. The name stuck in Rose's head for some reason, (possibly brain damage), and he retained the suggestion for a year later, when his own "My Project" cassette, as well as the first Ungeziefer cassette (by Dustin Hansen) were ready to be released so that they could scare the local high school kids.
Gerbil Probe Records was born from a prank, and continues to be a prank to anybody who listens to our releases. We aren't a real label, in the sense that we have real financial backing. GPR is more like a collective of like-minded artists who want to create truly alternative music for anybody who's willing to listen. With ties to Innervenus Records (in Pittsburgh PA) and Titan HGL (Denver CO) as well as many like-minded bands the world over, we're poised on the brink of blowing up and making an impact. Stay tuned!
Do we accept demos? Of course we do! The only problem with this scenario is that, as you read above, we aren't really a label in the traditional sense of the word. That has never stopped people from sending things before though, and I am more than willing to review any material you'd like me to for you. We have also been thinking about doing a compilation CD for some time now, so there would be another decent reason to send us a CD or two, as with the new connections may come new distribution options.
