Gerbil Probe: The Media Empire of Michael Allen Rose

Michael A Rose was born in Minot, North Dakota in 1978. As a child he discovered acting, kicking off a life-long passion for the arts. He received his BA in Theatre & English from Minot State University in 2004. During his time at MSU he acted in over thirty plays, dabbled in directing and design, and wrote extensively. In 2007, Michael completed his MFA in Playwriting at Southern Illinois University after being awarded a Masters Fellowship.

In Spring 2006 his short play Antarctica was part of the Journeys festival at SIU, and was invited to the American College Theatre Festival. His play Loot and Consequences was also performed at the ACTF in 2004, and another, Silence is Golden was a finalist in the 2003 Actors Theatre of Louisville 10 minute play competition. Michael's play Ghost Throats was chosen as an alternate at the 2005 Region 3 ACTF, and performed in Summer 2005 as part of Chicago’s Brown Couch Theatre 10-minute festival: Tempting Fate. Michael was the recipient of the 2005 Christian Moe award for Harold and Janice Face the End of the Universe.

His play Louie’s at 1st and Main is being considered for production in Colorado & Oregon. His MFA thesis play Copernicus Rising was produced in November 2006 in the McLeod Theatre. Michael is also a musician and performer. His works have been seen in Illinois, Oregon, Colorado, North Dakota & New York City. Currently, he is living in Chicago, looking for like-minded artists with which to make theatre magic.
